posting about classical and operant conditioning. mostly about my crazy cattle dog, goose.
some terms
- BAT: behavior adjustment training.
- BMO: behavior modification.
- CC: counterconditioning. for example, pairing a trigger with a reward.
- CAT: constructional aggression treatment.
- CER: conditioned emotional response.
- DRI: differential reinforcement of incompatible behaviors. for example, sitting instead of lunging or holding a toy instead of barking.
- DS: desensitization. gradually increasing a trigger's intensity without reaching threshold.
- P+: positive punishment. adding something aversive, such as shouting or jerking on a collar, to decrease a behavior.
- P-: negative punishment. removing something the dog desires to decrease a behavior. for example, turning your back and walking away when a dog jumps on you
- R+: positive reinforcement. adding something the dog desires to increase a behavior. giving treats for obeying a command is an example of positive reinforcement.
- R-: negative reinforcement. removing something aversive to increase a behavior. stepping away from a trigger (such as in CAT) is negative reinforcement.
